Hazards in my place

The Professional School Valea Stanciului

 Locality: Valea Stanciului

The drought is a climatic hazard with a long installation period, being characterized by the decrease of the precipitations under the average level, by the decrease of the debit in case of the rivers and of the underground water reserves which determine a big deficit of humidity in the air and in the soil, with direct effects upon the environment and firstly upon the agricultural cultures.

In the last years, we talk more and more about the global heating phenomenon, about the decrease of the ozone layer, about the greenhouse, about the drought and about the catastrophic consequences of these perturbations upon the nature and upon the man.

The reasons that have determined the climatic hazards are connected to the clime – the prolonged drought from the last years as well as the human interferences.

The specialists appreciate the fact that the drought and the phenomena generated by it are determined both by modifications in the general circulation of the atmosphere, determined by the apparition of the greenhouse and also by certain anthropic reasons.

The drought is produced because of the discontinuities in the normal operation of the system of atmospheric currents.

Consequences of a prolonged period of drought:

- compromised crops;

- profound dryness of the soil;

- reduction of total loss of the agricultural cultures.

The floods could be fi defined water coverings, by flooding some extended land surfaces. The floods and other types of calamities can be determined by some natural phenomena and by some human actions (accidental floods).

The most frequent floods are however the ones determined by the flooding of the running waters or by the apparition of some torrents, because of:

-         some abundant rains, for a long period;

-        the rapid melting of the snow layers;

Other dangerous meteorological phenomena which can affect our area are seasonal phenomena produced by massive precipitations, being accentuated by the meteorological conditions in which they have been produced.

       -  snow, sleet, lighting, hail, frost, fog, snowstorm, strong freeze.

The fires are dangerous hazards for the environment and for the human activities and they determine damages for the crops or losses of human lives.

The fires can be determined by natural reasons such as the lighting, self-ignition phenomena in case of the vegetation and they can also be determined by the people’s activities (negligence in using the fire, fires done on purpose, ).

In the drought periods, the fires are determined by strong winds associated with high temperatures, which contribute to the rapid extension of the fire.

The fires within the school communities can determine a lot of human and material damages. The risk factors such as the long period of finding a fire, a delayed alarm in case of the persons who are in danger, the fact of not knowing the building and the persons’ behavior, can delay the evacuation or can lead to choose a longer evacuation way instead of the optimal evacuation way.

 By participating within the project “The Network of the Safe Schools”- the pupils of our school have acquired a lot of abilities, skills and understandings in giving the first aid  in case of disasters, catastrophes or natural calamities.
