Krakra Pernishki - the legendary boyar of Tsar Samuil and governor of Pernik (PGE - Pernik)

Students of PGI - Pernik prepared a report dedicated to Krakra Pernishki - the legendary boyar of Tsar Samuel and governor of Pernik.

Krakra is a Bulgarian nobleman and military leader who lived in the second half of the 10th and the beginning of the 11th century. During Samuil's wars with Byzantium, Krakra defended the Pernik fortress and inflicted two defeats on the Byzantine emperor Vasiliy II, the "Bulgarian assassin", who tried to capture it.

The first siege of Pernik was in 1004, when Krakra repulsed both the attacks on the fortress and the emperor's attempts to attract him to his side. The second siege was in 1016 and lasted nearly three months with the same result - the Byzantines were forced to retreat after suffering heavy losses. Under the last ruler of the First Bulgarian Kingdom, Ivan Vladislav, Krakra ruled a vast area, including 35 fortresses. In 1017, while the Byzantines were ravaging the southern borders of the country (Southwestern Macedonia), the Pernik military leader prepared a counteroffensive from the north. His plan failed because the Pechenegs, who inhabited the lands north of the Danube, refused to join the Bulgarian army.

Shortly after the death of Tsar Ivan Vladislav in February 1018, Krakra submitted to Basil II along with his subordinate cities and in return was awarded the title of patrician.
