What to visit when you come to Niš?
Pupils from the parliament of the Gymnasium "Svetozar Markovic" decided to recommend to all friends and participants of the project what to visit when they come to our Nis.
- The Fortress
Our fortress is one of the few fortresses that has been preserved in good condition, and that rests on foundations 2000 years old. It is our symbol, because whoever decides to visit Nis, cannot fail to notice it. Today, in addition to being a very important tourist and archeological attraction, it hosts many events, including Nishville, the largest jazz festival in this part of Europe.
- Medijana
Medijana is an ancient Roman settlement. Emperor Constantine built this settlement, in which he would stay during the visit. Many rich people later moved there. That is why today archaeologists are discovering magnificent buildings from the 4th century.
- The Skull tower
A unique monument in the world, but not for its beauty, but for its horror. The Ottoman army built a tower from the skulls of the killed Serbian insurgents, who fought for the freedom of the people. A monument that was erected to intimidate the people, and in fact it only encouraged more and reminded the people that the freedom has no price.
- Bubanj Memorial Park
The first scene you will see upon arrival at Bubanj are three large fists surrounded by forest. On the Nis hill Bubanj during the Second World War, the occupying forces killed over 10,000 people, whose only sin was the existence. Serbs, Roma and Jews were brought there from the Red Cross camp, which has now been turned into a museum. Today, the Bubanj Memorial Park is one of the most famous picnic areas in Nis.
For each place we have prepared a presentation:
